Adolescent Therapy Atlanta

I just wanted to thank you for helping me get back on track. This past year has been brutal, but with your guidance I now feel hopeful and empowered.

Therapy for teens is different:

Adolescent therapy is designed to provide mental health support and treatment for adolescents and teens between the ages of 12 and 18. Adolescence is a period of significant physical, emotional, and cognitive development, and many teenagers may face various challenges during this time. Therapists with specialized training and experience working with adolescents will understand the unique challenges that face teenagers during this crucial time of development.

What are some of the issues teenagers face?

Many teens are facing struggles associated with mental health issues such as depression and/or anxiety, school challenges, family issues, self-esteem and identity issues, as well as trauma and grief. Teenagers will benefit from a therapist who recognizes the importance of understanding normal developmental milestones that teenagers experience and are then able to provide therapeutic techniques and support that foster healthy development and personal growth.

Specialized Trauma Therapy for Adolescents:

Adolescent trauma therapy is a specialized form of therapy designed to address the needs and challenges faced by adolescents who have experienced trauma. Trauma can result from various experiences such as physical or sexual abuse, neglect, witnessing violence, accidents, or other overwhelming events. Addressing trauma during adolescence is very important, as it can significantly impact the adolescent’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Trauma therapy from a trained therapist:

It is important that a qualified therapist provides a trauma informed approach when addressing childhood trauma. A trained trauma therapist will be knowledgeable about the impact of trauma on normal childhood development and will work to create a safe environment to help support the child’s processing of any traumatic experience. Within our practice, Ferran Dennis, LCSW is a certified trauma specialist. Based in Atlanta, and practicing throughout the state of Georgia, we focus on meeting you where and when you are most comfortable.

What are the types of Trauma Therapy?

Common evidenced based therapeutic modalities that are used to treat the symptoms of childhood trauma include:

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): This systematic approach combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with trauma-specific interventions.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): This therapy involves guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): DBT combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness to help adolescents regulate emotions.

For more information about these therapeutic approaches, or if you have questions about how we can assist you further, please contact our office.
